Hello, my name is Chris Kent, and I’m the founder and CEO of the 21st Century Marketing Academy.
I’m also the author of “21st Century Marketing: What it is, Why it matters, and How to do it”. I’ve written this book specifically to help entrepreneurs and small business owners get to grips with everything the modern marketing landscape has to offer – and apply it to their business so they survive and prosper.
I started my first business in my early 20’s. I had a great idea, and great product – which was a software program I’d developed to help small builders with their estimating. The few customers I had loved it because it saved them so much time.
But having a great product wasn’t enough, and I eventually went bust – and that was a very painful and expensive experience!
I started reading everything I could get my hands on, and went to as many seminars and workshops as my credit cards could bear. I loved it, and marketing became one of my passions – and it still gives me a buzz to this day!
Several years ago, I had the opportunity to do a Master’s degree in Digital Marketing – which I grabbed with both hands. During my final year I had to do a research project and I focused on the impact of the global digital marketing skills gap on micro-businesses (that’s typically businesses with less than 10 employees).
I conducted over 25 in-depth interviews with entrepreneurs and micro-business owners – including Callie – who share their problems, frustrations, and other challenges with me as they struggled to get to grips with marketing their business in the 21st century.
One thing every business owner told me was that if they only understood – and I mean really understood – what was available to them and why they should use it before they start the business, then their lives would have been so much easier!
This was a frustration that I heard again and again, and I was determined to find a way to help these poor business owners who were pretty much left on their own and had to fend for themselves. And that’s where the concept of the 21st Century Marking System was born.
Over the last few years I’ve developed and refined the system to take advantage of everything the modern marketing landscape has to offer. I’ve consolidated and simplified it into an easy to understand step-by-step system that any business owner can use to successfully market their business.
In fact, we also use it every day in our own business too.
It’s been specifically designed to help people like Callie, Angela, John and Matthew – and all the other business owners I spoke to during my research who were struggling to craft the perfect message to promote their business and get that message “out there.”
Marketing is all about getting the right message in front of the right target audience at the right time using the right tools.
Ultimately, marketing drives sales – and that’s what we all need if we’re going to survive and prosper and achieve our business goals.
